SAN DIEGO (June 21, 2024) – National insurance defense and civil litigation firm Tyson & Mendes LLP has named Scott Ruksakiati the firm’s new Midwest and Central regional managing partner. In this new role, Ruksakiati will oversee Illinois, Texas, and Tennessee. Ruksakiati retains his role as managing partner for the firm’s Chicago office.
Ruksakiati brings to this expanded role more than 25 years’ experience defending clients in diverse and challenging litigation. Ruksakiati’s practice focuses on professional liability, catastrophic injury and death, construction defects, breach of contract disputes (stemming from multimillion-dollar construction projects), transportation litigation and other complex commercial litigation cases throughout the U.S. He has significant experience in insurance coverage matters involving third-party liability and first party property claims, as well as extensive experience representing insurance producers and brokers in breach of contract and tort claims.
Over the course of his career, Ruksakiati has gained a reputation for successfully resolving cases prior to trial or arbitration by developing defenses for winning summary judgment and by positioning cases for favorable resolution through mediation. His new role maximizes the firm’s impact and reach in jurisdictions known for delivering Nuclear Verdicts® (outsized jury awards where the damages are disproportionate to the facts and injuries of the case). Tyson & Mendes is known for its pioneering and proven use of the Nuclear Verdicts® Defense Methods to drive down damages, and the firm’s presence in so-called “judicial hellholes” such as Texas and Illinois has proven critical to protecting its clients’ interests.
Among Ruksakiati’s notable cases at Tyson & Mendes, the Indiana Court of Appeals affirmed a summary judgment ruling in favor of his client. In the $8 million high stakes case, the design/build company was sued for alleged faulty design after a purported brain injury was sustained in a newly constructed swimming pool (CAUSE NO. 71D04-1804-CT-000160).
Ruksakiati is a member of the bars of the State of Illinois, the Northern District of Illinois (general and trial bars), the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the District of Nebraska, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He earned his J.D. from DePaul University and is rated as AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell.
Serving 21 states nationwide, Tyson & Mendes is one of the fastest growing civil defense firms in the U.S. and is proud to offer one of the fastest and clearest paths to partnership for its attorneys of any mid-sized law firm in the U.S. The firm is honored to be recognized as a 2024 Best Law Firm by Best Lawyers’, named a 2024 Best Company to Work for: Law Firm by U.S. News & World Report, awarded the 2023 Liberty Mutual Insurance External Law Firm Partner of the Year Award, awarded the No. 1 “Ceiling Smasher” in Law360’s 2022 Glass Ceiling Report for female equity partnership, and shortlisted for Financial Times’ 2022 Innovative Lawyers North America Award.
